We are a small organic farm in Eugene Oregon. We specialize in rare heirloom tomatoes and squash and sell fruit and seed and products from breeds listed critically endangered by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. We are grateful to have received a Good Husbandry Grant for our hatchery from Animal Welfare Approved, an organization we are proud to represent! Ancona ducks are a breed unique for their speckled or broken and irregular color patterns and wide range of colors. They are an incredibly productive breed laying as many eggs as a chicken, they are average 2.6 oz compared to a chickens 1.67oz egg and some are a beautiful Robins egg blue! Anconas are enthusiastic foragers, at times they can provide 80% of their diet from pasture, their eggs are packed full of probiotics and nutrients and the color, flavor, and texture proves it. Duck eggs are a highly concentrated egg, cakes rise double the volume, egg breads are beautiful and mouth watering, and even a simple poached egg sandwich needs nothing more than its thick and creamy yolk. Anconas are a dual purpose breed and males dress out to about 4lbs average at 8 weeks and 5lbs at 12wks, the flavor is rich and moist and because Ancona ducks do not fly the breast is very tender with less and better flavored fat than a Pekin! We offer eggs, meat, ducklings and chicks, all raised on our custom blended feed with locally sourced ingredients and because we will be using these birds for their dual purpose we are able to be very strict about our breeding standards. Our little farm is growing and with help from our local community we can move these breeds out of their endangered status, with consumer demand, it will happen! We will be bringing home a family milk cow named Sundae at the end of Feb! She is a Dutch Belted from an organic grain-free dairy. Dutch Belted's milk is rich and high in protein, it has smaller globules of fat making it easier to digest (like goat milk). We are selling shares now and hope to have them all sold by early March when she is due to calf.
