Blenheim Organic Gardens is part of Blenheim Farm, a 400 acre farm long associated with the Washington family in Westmoreland County, Va. The farm is 45 minutes east of Fredericksburg & about 1 mile from George Washington's Birthplace National Monument. We are USDA certified organic. We are a family farm where sustainable agriculture and wildlife conservation are our top priorities. The farm is protected in a permanent conservation easement and is home to two nesting pairs of bald eagles and migratory waterfowl. We grow a large variety of crops on about 7 acres chosen for their beauty and their flavor, including lettuce mixes, elephant garlic, onions & leeks, tomatoes, basil, sweet corn and speciality eggplants, to name a few. We do succession planting to ensure a constant harvest. Fall 2008 we added 14 old Virginia variety apple trees and 3 pear trees to our orchid. And in the spring of 2009 we will be getting our first harvest from our Asparagus bed - we can't wait! We have been part of the Williamsburg Farmers' Market since its' inception in the summer of 2002. We have a CSA locally(Westmoreland & King George county) and also in Falls Church. Our CSA program runs from early May - the 1st week of October. Inquiries about internships are welcome.

COPE Farms is a unique Christian owned farm in Middle Georgia. We promote eco-friendly green practices to protect God?s Creation in which we all live, Planet Earth. Using principles from Organic growing, Permaculture, and edible forest gardening we are promoting a clean healthy earth friendly alternative to traditional farming and agricultural practices. While we are a new small farm and the practices we are doing are unique and radical for our area they are hardly new and have been in use and proven for over 20 years or more. The farm is located on 37 acres of gently rolling woodland in between Macon, Warner Robins, Byron, and Fort Valley, Georgia where we call home. Its definitely not your typical flat open acreage we call farm land around us. By working with nature instead of against it we have more biodiversity of plants and animals on our little piece of heaven than most traditional farms could even imagine. COPE stands for Caretakers Of Planet Earth. The definition I found also means "to adjust to new situations and overcome problems." I believe the problems are the chemicals and pesticides on our foods and cancers and diseases increasing have a direct relationship to one another. By growing organically and using no chemicals or pesticides I believe we can help eliminate some of the problems and provide a healthier safer food for us to consume. We are always looking for students and volunteers to help out around the farm. We of course share our knowledge with them in return. We welcome you to make a difference in our planet and in Christ. Come join us and become a Caretaker Of Planet Earth. By planting perennial plants that will provide us with crop sources in a wild and natural setting and without the use of chemicals, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. Our plants are allowed to grow in a natural state, which in turn is more natural for us to consume. By using time honored approaches to building up the soil we are able to create strong plants that are less disease prone, less pest infested, and better crop producers. Starting out a farm of this nature is much more work to begin with because you do have to deal with pest and low producing crops to start with. After years of work your soil becomes better, plants produce more, and become more pest resistant. Its definitely not for everyone and its not a large scale process, but in the end with persistence and hard work you are happily rewarded. Your crops are better producing and better for you and have a much better flavor because of it. Famous Farmer Joel Salatin said it best.....?We are caretakers of creation we don't own it what we are supposed to do is leave it in better shape than for the next generation than when we found it. Part of our responsibility as stewards of the earth is to respect the design of creation.? We at Caretakers Of Planet Earth believe in this with all our heart, mind, and soul. Thanks Mike Rutherford Farm Manager of COPE Farms ?The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Genesis 2:15 (NIV)

We are a U-Pick berries farm, offering summer-long succession of U-Pick berries. Blueberries begin our picking season usually the last week of July, picking until early-mid August. Next, our thorn-less blackberries begin picking in early August and pick until mid-September. Next, our high-flavor red and golden raspberries begin picking about August 10 and pick continuously until fall frost, or at least until the end of September. All picking and take-home containers are furnished. Children are welcome picking with parent or guardian. Starting in early June, our farm phone is activated, please always call ahead for picking days and hours, phone 540552-4195, June through early October, then phone is off until June. Normally, we pick only in the mornings, 8 AM to 12 noon, and on Sunday afternoons, 3 to 6 PM. We are open usually only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings, and on Sunday afternoons, other days are closed for ripening. Our picking schedule is determined by the berries' ripening times, not by us, so do call ahead for our current schedule, also often changed due to wet weather! We do not pick wet berries. Again, always call ahead, 540-552-4195.

Our organic EverGreen Farm sponsors Equine Therapy Associates (ETA), a Premier Center of North American Riding for the Handicapped (NARHA). We offer the therapeutic benefits of an organic farm setting, certified instructors, cuddly cats, and trained ponies to enable children and adults (aged 3-90!) to ameoiorate physical, mental and emotional challenges. Our "Happy Place of Learning" always needs trained volunteers, and students in need of scholarships! We sell heirloom plants and bushes, along with custom photography (flora and fauna) to support our Scholarship Program. Visit us at www.equinetherapyassociates.com, and learn about our exercise and nutrition based programming below. We'd love to have you join our inspiring team in Montgomery County's beautiful Agricultural Reserve! Visit us on Montgomery County's Farm Tour on July 26 (Saturday) from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Contact us via our website if you wish to volunteer or register for riding lessons: www.equinetherapyassociates.com. ETA Works to Combat Obesity in Children! This year some 90% of our students will be children or adolescents. If they match the national average, approximately one third of them will be overweight or obese (15%). ETA helps combat this epidemic in three ways: by assigning an individually developed take-home series of exercises to build strength, endurance and dexterity (done in the home, at school, or in cars 3-7 times+ a week), by ensuring that all 90 minute riding lessons at the farm are fast-paced, weight-bearing, and fun, and by planting a garden to encourage our students to eat many more fresh fruits and vegetables! Planting & Cultivating a Vegetable Garden Promotes Health! Unlike past eras in America, especially since the height of vegetable gardening in WWII, when 95% of households had large vegetable gardens, the vast majority of our student riders have never seen a vegetable garden, and have never cultivated one. In fact, most of them, especially the younger ones, consider food to appear almost miraculously at Giant or Safeway, with no conceptual understanding of farms or animals. Also unlike most of our volunteers here at ETA, the vast majority of our lower income students have gotten since l988 virtually all of their vegetable calories from three items: canned tomatoes, white potatoes and iceberg lettuce. So, ETA annually plants a garden that explores the wealth of God’s creation! Although our volunteers, our family and or paid helpers may plant the garden, our students cultivate it, and pick take-home items from June through November. Our produce includes up to 12 varieties of low-acid heirloom tomatoes (historic seeds that are vigorous, naturally resistant to pests, and drought tolerant), usually six varieties of peppers (including hot ones), two varieties of beans (string and yellow wax), peas, spinach, eggplant, Swiss Chard, radishes, lettuce varieties, herbs, melon, cucumbers, and squash. Often, we will plant melons and or pumpkins on our compost heaps in the back fields; they grow to be HUGE but we only eat a few, as the dear love them as well. After training, our volunteers go home with seeds or plants for their own vegetable and flower gardens! We encourage our volunteers to enjoy them as they remember their time with us at ETA, and to think about donating some of the produce to their local food bank, elderly neighbors, or a shelter. Organic vegetables produced at home taste better, look nicer, and lower the carbon imprint! Composting Boosts Garden Production, Saves $$ and Waste You may have read recently in The Washington Post that Home Depot and Lowes are being pressure by environmentalists to stop buying and selling cypress mulch, which is produced by clear-cutting sensitive forests in the American south. By contrast, producing our own compost from horse manure is FREE, except for the labor of pushing wheelbarrows, and the ponies EACH produce TEN TONS (20,000 lbs.) of rich compost, or free fertilizer, each year! Our volunteers are invited to take home compost for their own gardens. Visit us at www.equinetherapyassociates.com. Thank you!

Pinnacle Pastures Farm has been in the family for 60+ years. Cody oversees daily management of the farm which is in organic transition. Animals never receive hormones or sub-therapeutic levels of antibiotics. Cody has planted clover / grass pastures as well as pastures especially for hogs?allowing them to graze fresh greens and root out turnips as nature intended. Hogs are bred and fed for exceptional meat flavor and high nutrient density. Piglets are raised on pasture during the summer and in deep straw bedded huts in our barn during winter. Very little lard comes with our finished hogs as they get lots of exercise! Pinnacle Pastures also offers grass fed Angus cross beef and Katahdin lamb. These lambs are milder in flavor than standard sheep breeds. Heritage breeds of turkey, geese, ducks, guineas, and chickens reside with the beef and hogs who offer protection from predators. Great Pyrenees guardian dogs offer further protections. It is a privilege to care for livestock and nurture their instinctive behaviors. Calves, kids, lambs, piglets, chicks, ducklings, and goslings are raised by their mothers. Beef and hogs available by whole, half, bundles, and smaller quantities. Nitrate-free bacon is available. Visitors are always welcome.

Our small organic farm is part of our Eco-friendly Bed and Breakfast, Thyme in the Country. We have a small herd of Dutch Belt Cows to help improve the meadows, enrich the gardens and provide milk and milk products to our guests and family and the 2 pigs that we raise each season. We grow herbs and vegetables to feed our guests and sell whatever is left from our farm. Herbs help add meaning to seasons at our Bed and Breakfast in many ways. We incorporate the folklore of herbs and their history into our decorating, our landscaping and our meals. We also have fresh eggs from the 20 chickens that we free range, herb baskets, herb plants, dried flowers, wreaths, small arrangements. Our afternoon teas come from our gardens as well as the lemon balm and mint syrups that we flavor our lemonades and fruit with.

Tawanda Farms produces wonderful grass fed beef and lamb on 120 acres in far northern California. We produce this wonderful meat from specific breeds of sheep and cattle. The sheep are Romney and the cattle are Murray Grey. Both are very calm, gentle, easy to handle breeds. Thus, they live and we work in a non stress environment. Romney lamb is very mild, suculent and tender. Murray Grey beef marbles very nicely on grass and is tender and flavorful. We are proud to make this food available to our customers.

Turquoise Barn is a former dairy farm located in the Western Foothills of New York's Catskill Mountains. The farm is home to 4 historic buildings which are now the residence, studio, workshop, and gallery (Turquoise Barn) of two artists formerly of East Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY. Besides the 4 historical barn structures, we currently have organic vegetable, flower, & herb gardens, a small apple orchard and chickens. A seasonal farm stand located in front of Turquoise Barn Gallery is where we sell organic produce. We incorporate a variety of natural growing methods including organic, biodynamic & permaculture. We also sell fresh organic blue eggs from our chickens who are pasture fed and supplemented with organic feed. Inside the barn you can purchase local products such as maple syrup, raw honey, & beeswax candles. We also have a BED & BREAKFAST in our 1800’s converted carriage house which offers organic, vegan, raw living food options including green smoothies, fresh juices, and sprouted breads. Ingredients are, organic, local, or from our farm when possible. Live dinner options are also available by request as well as Raw/Living food classes and retreats for groups or individuals. Our long term plan is to convert through restoration and preservation, our historic farm into a reserved destination that involves creative arts, events, short term stays and organic cultivation centered on appreciating a sustained natural environment. We are dedicated to natural living and the preservation of agriculture in the local community
