FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
General Questions
What is Farmfoody.org?
Farmfoody.org is the first social network centered around independent farms and eating fresh, local food. We connect farmers to people interested in creating a community to support the small independent farm practicing sustainable agriculture.
How do I add my farm?
Sign up for a Farmer account. It's as simple as that. Once you sign up you can manage your farm's presence on our site.
Can I add a farmer's market, CSA or vineyard?

Is this site for everyone?

How does Farm Foody work?
By creating a social network, farmers can communicate more naturally and easily with customers and their customers can receive information they need conveniently. People with a love for a particular farm can become its friends. People who love farm fresh food can become friends with each other, etc. By placing farmers and customers equal footing in the social network, people are free to build a community with relationships similar to those that once existed in small town America. Farmers and their customers lived and worked in the same community. They knew each other and interacted on a daily basis. People knew where their food came from and they knew who grew their produce and raised their livestock. We hope our site can restore something of this relationship.
How much does it cost to use Farmfoody.org?
Farmfoody.org is FREE social networking for farmers, gardeners, chefs and everyone. Our social networking services will always be free.
How can Farmfoody.org be free?
We intend to support the site through advertising, either text based Google Ads, by farmers marketing niche goods and services on our site or through advertisements of farm and garden related products. We are also considering offering specialized services to farmers for an extra fee. We dislike websites overloaded with advertising, so we promise to keep it to a minimum. We believe the basic social networking services are supportable without charging users a fee.
What is the difference between a "foody" user account and a "farm" user account?
Social networking sites frequently offer different types of accounts to users with different needs. For example, Musicians may get a special account that allows them to display tour dates. On our site, farmers can sign up for a Farmer account that allows them to take advantage of farm-related features. A Foodie account is for everyone. We also welcome pick your own, farm stands, farmer's markets and CSA's and other types of accounts may be offered in the future.
How do I receive bulletins from a farm?
To receive a bulletin from a farm (a user with a farmer account), you must become a friend of the farm(er). Farms are users in the social network just like everyone else, except their user name is typically the name of their farm and has special content. This is similar to a profile for a musical group on a non-farm social network. Please note: you will receive email notifications when bulletins are sent.
How do I cancel my account?

How do I stop recieving email?

How do I get to my homepage?
Click the You item on the menu at the top of each page.
Can I change my user name?
We do not allow users to change their user names. Please choose your user name carefully. If there is a mistake in the name of a farm, please contact us to help resole the matter. We may be able to make a correction to the user name for a farm account. We can always delete your account and you can create a new user identity with the correct name.
I cannot find any search results near my location. Why?
Unless entering a zip code into our locality search, you must specify a state and city. A comma separating city from state is required: City COMMA State, like this: The Plains, Virginia. You may use standard two letter state abbreviations: Arlington, VA.
Not all zip codes may appear in our database. Please use our contact page to report any missing zip codes. Currently, no geographical location to zipcode database contains all locations.
Our site started out including organic farms in Virginia. As other farms and users sign up, the geographical areas covered will expand.

Contacts
You may add any user to your list of contacts. You must be signed in to add a contact.
Contacts are useful for keeping track of others on the site. They are more like favorites than friends, so you may add your favorite farms to the list of contacts.
When you add someone to your list of contacts, they appear in your contacts list. When a person adds you as a contact, they appear in your contacts list as well (but not in public). Contacts do not appear anywhere on the site in public, as friends do. This is because contacts do not require approval. Someone can add you as their contact without your permission, but they cannot make you a friend without your permission. When a person is both a friend and a contact, they also show up in contacts.
Friends
You may ask another user to become a friend. A friendship relation requires approval of both parties before you or the other person are displayed publicly on the site as friends. Becoming a friend enables you to receive notification when friends post bulletins.
- You must be signed in to use the friends feature.
- At this time, friends cannot be removed, but we will soon be adding the capability.
- To see a list of your friends, go to your public profile (click You in the site navigation)
